If you're not familiar with the world of Squarriors, now is the time.
Squarriors Summer #3 picks up after the last issue, with the Amoni and the Maw preparing to attack the Tin Kin tribe. The Tin Kin continue to search for an intruder in their midst, and a group of refugees have shown up at the stronghold seeking shelter.
This issue continues to build on the stories we've seen in the past. We continue to get glimpses into the past, hinting at what eliminated the humans. While there are clearly answers yet to come, we do get some more insight into the world that the last of the humans lived in.
As always, the art in this issue is amazing. Starting with the cover (seen above), Ashley Witter portrays these animals in a realistic fashion, while still giving the impression that these creatures are sentient. The use of colors throughout the panels does an amazing job of setting the tone and mood of the story.
Ash Maczko delivers a great story in this issue. The world that has been built, with all of the various factions and their interactions reminds me of Tolkien's Middle Earth. You can see the various intricacies behind the way the characters work together.
The dialogue written is great, ranging from dark to extremely light. There is a particular scene with Crash and Zeezee that will have you giggling.
As I said at the beginning, this is a world you should get familiar with. Although we often think of squirrels as adorable creatures, these squirrels are more than capable of taking you down in battle.
