As I have mentioned here before, this week is San Diego Comic Con! But let's be honest, if you're reading this you probably already know that.
And if you aren't able to go to Comic Con (or you aren't going until later in the week like us), I want to give you a few things you can enjoy at home. There may be exclusives and premiers at the Con, but there are plenty of awesome things you can do right in the comfort of your own home.
And today we're starting with comics! Because that's what Comic Con is all about (right? It's not all just movies and TV shows now??).
Today there were lots of great comics that came out, and I want to highlight a few of them here.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe...Again #2 - Be warned, this is not a kids book. It's stamped right there on the cover. And come on, read the title of this comic. It's brutal. Cullen Bunn is giving us a great run with this series. It's a new story, breaking away from the original Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. In this issue, Deadpool is going after all of our favorite Spider-folk. Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Miles Morales...they're all basically boned. And they all die some nasty deaths. Fortunately we're only 2 issues in, so go back and catch up if you aren't already reading this! You'll laugh, but don't let anyone look over your shoulder to see why you're laughing, or you may lose them as a spouse, friend, etc.
Batman #27 - The War of Jokes and Riddles continues. Gotham is in the middle of a war between The Joker and The Riddler. Tom King has done a brilliant job of writing this issue. I am a big fan of this style, where you see a scene, then the next scene jumps forward, the next scene is earlier, etc. I love getting clues about what has happened, then get bits of what led to that. If you haven't been reading this, you are missing out. Fortunately you are only a few issues out, so go start from the beginning!
Secret Empire #6 - I've been raving about this series. Nick Spencer has done a brilliant job of crafting this story. At times it has been hard to keep up with what is going on, there has been so much building up to this with Captain America having his history rewritten, but everything is coming together. This issue has an awesome scene between Captain America and Iron Man. Years of history between them kind of comes out in a powerful scene. We're nearing the end of Secret Empire, and I can't wait to see what happens!
Batwoman #5 - The new Rebirth series of Batwoman continues. We continue top get more of Kate Kane's story from her time on the island nation of Coryana. Marguerite Bennett is a brilliant writer, giving us a lot of the backstory that set up the last few issues. Batwoman has recently become one of my favorite characters in the DC comic universe, and this current run is to blame! Again, we are early in this run so if you haven't read any of Batwoman yet, go get started!
And these are just some of my favorites from the week. There are plenty more choices from this week. If the titles I've mentioned don't do it for you (what's wrong with you?) go to your local comic book shop and see what else they've got!
So what comes next? We got a couple of awesome trailers for "The Snowman" and "The Shape of Water" that we'll take a look at. Come back tomorrow for more fun to have at home!
