What are you favorite movies where the critics got it completely wrong?
Good or bad, I think I probably agree 70% of time with the general consensus from critics on movies. HOWEVER, there have DEFINITELY been cases when I COMPLETELY disagreed with what professional film reviewers have had to say about a particular motion picture.
I recently rewatched one of my favorite movies: Troy Duffy's 1999 The Boondock Saints. I would EASILY give this movie a Fresnerd A+, what a masterpiece! So you can imagine my surprise when afterward I looked up on Rotten Tomatoes that only 20% of critics gave it a positive review....WTF?! This is especially ridiculous when you compare it to its 91% audience approval rating. Wow, talk about a disconnect with the pulse of the everyday movie goer, right?!
So, I decided to showcase other examples of this discrepancy. Below are what I think are the top cases of where a great movie was totally misjudged by the critics...
Billy Madison (1995) Critics 46% Audience 79%
Saw (2004) Critics 48% Audience 84%
Hook (1991) Critics 30% Audience 76%
Home Alone (1990) Critics 56% Audience 79%
Die Hard 3 (1995) Critics 51% Audience 83%
Now...I did also find a couple of examples where I disagreed with BOTH the critics AND the audience:
Ghost in the Shell (2017) Critics 45% Audience 57%
Ace Ventura (1993) Critics 46% Audience 57%
However, I think this will be covered by another post us Fresnerds have been contemplating regarding guilty pleasures, so I'll save that for then..
Otherwise, what are your thoughts on under appreciated movies???
