This week was relatively slow for truly new things (I read through the next four volumes of Saga), but I did find one really fun thing. When I'm at the library I like to wander through the graphic novel section to see if something random happens to jump out at me. This week I happened to stumble across "I Hate Fairyland" and I couldn't be happier!
If you've never read this, it's the story of a young girl named Gertrude who travels to a fairy tale land. In order to find her way home, she has to find a magic key. 27 years later, she hasn't found the key! She hasn't physically aged, but mentally she's gone a bit downhill (let's be honest, we'd all go a little nuts if we were stuck in a fairy tale for that long).
The art in this comic is beautifully drawn. It's sickeningly bright and what you would expect from a place called "fairyland" but the story itself is definitely not made for kids. Her patience is short and she murders her way through the land.
I'm definitely hooked on this series. I just ordered the second volume and I'm looking forward to the ongoing adventures!
