Happy Sunday, everybody! It's that time of the week again for another edition of "Reading Things" and this week we've got a lot to cover.
Saga Volume 1 - I first heard about Saga in a tweet from The Media Lunch Break (which is a great podcast, by the way, go check them out at http://www.themedialunchbreak.com). I'm way behind the ball on this one, as Volume 7 just came out, but I wanted to give this series a read. At it's base, this is essentially a Romeo & Juliet tale. Our main characters come together and find love, even though they are from two warring societies. As they try to escape, there is magic, talking robots, bounty hunters and just about any other awesome thing you can think of. If you haven't read this series yet, give it a chance. I was hooked from the beginning and I've already started on Volume 2.
X-Men Blue #2 - I feel bad that I always seem to start out by bashing on this series. The main comic was pretty "OK" in issue #1, and improved a bit in #2, but it's the ending of each issue that blows my mind. I'm in on this series now. X-O Manowar #2 - Unlike with X-Men Blue, I was hooked all throughout the first issue of this series, and the second issue hasn't disappointed. I love that Valiant has this huge story arc planned out for this character. Right now we're in the Soldier phase, with General, Emperor and Visigoth yet to come. Batman #21 - The Button - I know I'm a week late on this, but I kept hearing about this issue with "The Button!" so I had to grab a copy. This really is a great story. Batman has to battle reverse Flash, and does so with amazing flare. It helps to have knowledge of "Flashpoint Paradox" in this one. I'll grab The Flash #21 for the next part of this tie in as well.
Deadpool Vs. the Punisher #2 - I love that a lot of the "Deadpool Vs." comics tend to turn into buddy teamups (see Deadpool Vs. Thanos). This series is everything I hope to see in the new Deadpool movie with Cable. Deadpool is basically being himself, a bit off (having been shot in the brain at least once before this issue started), and The Punisher is the straight man. This story started out with them at odds because The Punisher appeared to kill a the family mob banker who Deadpool liked. Of course he was set up, and he has brought Deadpool along as they try to find who actually committed the crime. This is a fun little series. I think it's a short run, only 5 or 6 issues, so give it a read!
Weapon X #2 - Someone from the Weapon X program is out hunting their old experiments, and they've got a buttload of adamantium at their disposal, apparently. Like, herd-of-horses-quantities. While this hasn't been as much fun (yet) as I had originally hoped, there are signs of greatness. Old Man Logan and Sabertooth are teamed up, with Logan ribbing Sabertooth about being on a dating site. It's kind of weird, but funny.
X-Men Gold #2 - Holy cow, there were lots of #2s this week. The X-Men team led by Kitty Pryde is hunting down the "Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" or something ridiculous (don't worry, they get called out for it). They've attacked the UN and kidnapped the mayor, but their biggest mistake is when they kidnap Wolverine.
Mighty Captain Marvel #4 - I love Captain Marvel, but this arc, and this issue in particular, weren't my favorite. At least this wraps up the current story of Carol Danvers searching for whoever is kidnapping Kree children, one of whom happens to make the Captain's powers go crazy. She even makes a comment that she's about to "Hulk Out" at one point. Still love this character, so I'll of course keep reading and wait to see what the next arc brings.
Rocket Raccoon #5 - Rocket finally escapes from the alien prison / pursuits of Kraven. This was a fun series, but we're going to see the Guardians get back together next month, which I'm looking forward to.
Phew. OK, we made it through that one! Have anything you've read that you want to talk about? Or something I should be reading? Leave it in the comments below!
