Every once in a while, a remake gets announced that I immediately think "This doesn't need to be remade," but when I start to see trailers and clips I suddenly realize that I really do want that movie! That's what's happening with IT. When this first got announced, I wondered why they were remaking a classic. We've already seen this attempted in the horror world with the remake of The Omen and we all know what a disappointment that turned out to be.
The first teaser for IT came out today and I suddenly realized how awesome this (potentially) can be. Film making techniques in horror have changed over the years, child actors have somehow gotten better (see Stranger Things) so maybe this is a great opportunity to update this to modern horror standards.
I'm a bit worried that there are going to be lots of "jump scares." There are several in the trailer alone. The first time we see Pennywise he makes a jump up into view in the sewer. He has that creepy run across the room shaking his head. As excited as I am about this movie at this point, I hope they aren't going to rely too much on these hackneyed techniques to make the audience jump.
If you haven't seen the trailer yet, it's linked below. Check it out and leave your thoughts in the comments!
