Welcome to this week's edition of "Reading Things"! This has actually been a fairly busy week in reading for me. I've been a bit under the weather, so I had some time home to catch up on a few things.
The Sandman - I finally finished up Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series. While the series does have its best volumes earlier on, that's not a knock against the last two books. The story goes in a direction I never saw coming and I think wraps up beautifully. While I wish I had read these earlier in life, I'm not sure I would have appreciated them quite as much in my younger years. I highly recommend these to any comic book fan.
Monster Unleashed - The Marvel mini series has come to an end. Overall I enjoyed these books, and I have a full review posted here: https://www.thefresnerd.com/home/2017/3/16/monsters-unleashed-review
American Gods - Yes, this week is very heavy on Neil Gaiman. About a month ago, I re-read the American Gods novel, and this week the graphic novel series started up. I'm really appreciative of the timing. With everything fresh in my mind, it's fun to see the clues that are given to the reader early on in the story, that get revealed late in the story. The art in this book is magnificent. Whether you've read the novel or not, this series is great for any fan of comics or mythology.
Guardians of the Galaxy - I have loved this run of Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Michael Bendis. The book I read this week was the Civil War II tie in. Although I am sad to see the Guardians going their separate ways by the end, I have loved the journey and I look forward to seeing them back together again soon!
What's in the week ahead? I picked up the new Locke & Key Small World book, so I'm excited to get into that. As for novels, my wife just finished up The Handmaid's Tale which I've never read before so I think I'm going to get started on that.
What else are you all reading? Anything I should be jumping on?
