Monsters Unleashed - Review

We've made it!  We have reached the end of Marvel's 5-issue series "Monsters Unleashed."  The main series, along with a few one-offs (Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Hulk, etc), pits all of Marvel's heroes battling against monsters raining down from the sky.  Not only do our heroes have to discover why these monsters are here, they have to stop them from destroying the world!

The story itself is fine.  A young boy, who we later learn is an inhuman, has the ability to summon monsters by drawing them.  As the monsters arrive, we learn that they are actually here on earth to clear space for their leviathan queen!  Fortunately the Inhumans, the X-Men, the Avengers and others are available to help.

Probably more exciting than the actual story are the battles.  Who wouldn't want to watch Thor blast a monster with lightning, or Groot rip one open from the inside??

If nothing else, this story is worth reading through for these battles.  Much like "Avengers Vs. X-Men" we could have issues of just the one-off battles.  Forget the story lines, let's see the fights!

And the story wraps up with the young boy who can summon monsters taking on the moniker "Kid Kaiju," which is a fun name!  And he's got an ongoing "Monsters Unleashed" series coming out next month.  Once that's out we'll give it a read and let you know what they think.

Overall, I wouldn't say this is a can't miss series, but it was definitely a lot of fun.  I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

Have any of you out there read this series?  What did you think?
