Today we're looking back at some of the best moments from 2017's comic book movies. While most of these movies had lots of good moments, we agreed that some scenes stood above the others.
Since we'll be discussing specific moments from these movies, there are of course spoilers for Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman, Thor Ragnarok, Spider-Man Homecoming and Justice League.
We consider Logan to be one of the best comic book movies of all time. Up there with The Dark Knight and The Avengers. And it was full of great moments. As our top moment, we selected Wolverine's Berserker Rage scene. When Logan takes the serum and screams into the forest, we got chills. And that was all before the amazing fight scene right afterward.
I'm also giving a special nod to Logan's funeral scene, specifically when X23 turns the cross onto its side to make an X. I definitely did not cry during that scene.
I wasn't able to go see Wonder Woman until a few weeks after it came out, and I had already heard multiple times that the No Mans Land scene was amazing. Even now, watching the clip below, I get chills even though it's out of context. This scene really made the Wonder Woman character take that next step from learning about the world of Man to just saying "screw it" and doing what needed to be done.
Our selection from Thor Ragnarok is what I consider one of the funniest single moments in all of the MCU. As Thor and Hulk face off in the arena, Thor attempts to calm the Hulk with Black Widow's "The Sun's Getting Real Low" speech. I was dying when this happened. Even on the second showing, knowing that it was coming, I was cracking up. As of this writing, I can't find a clip, so here's the original speech. Now just insert Thor for Black Widow.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
In one of the more brilliant openings to a movie, James Gunn opens the latest Guardians of the Galaxy with our ragtag group of heroes preparing to fight a big monster. But instead of showing much of the fight, we get to watch Baby Groot dance across the credits, with various members of the Guardians getting beat up and thrown in to check on how he's doing. While this movie had a ton of great scenes, this was the one that jumped out to us.
In a nod to the comics, we get a scene with Peter Parker beat down. He has a building sitting on top of him, and he is looking inside himself for the strength to go on. As he looks down into the water, we get a split face of Peter and Spider-Man, as he realizes he has the strength to go on, and lifts the building up off of himself. This movie did a lot to make audiences care about Spider-Man again, and this scene really showed the two sides of our hero. He's both a vulnerable kid, and a hero.
I'll admit, I had trouble picking a favorite moment from this movie. Initially I went with the post-credits race between The Flash and Superman, but I was convinced to go with the opening fight with Wonder Woman. Which is fair because she really was the best part of this movie (and the DCEU).
Did we miss any? What were your favorite moments in comic book movies this year?
