Here is your obligatory warning: this post is full of spoilers about Thor Ragnarok. If you want our non-spoiler review, you can check it out here: https://www.thefresnerd.com/home/2017/11/2/thor-ragnarok-review-spoiler-free
Now, this post is not really a review, so much as I wanted to talk about a few of my favorite (and non-favorite) from Thor Ragnarok.
Let's start with the funniest single moment in the MCU. When Thor is trying to calm the Hulk using Black Widow's "The sun is setting" speech, I nearly peed myself. Easily the funniest individual moment of all the movies.
That entire fight scene in the arena was the best scene in the movie. The overall fight, the humor, it was all great. Including of course Loki's reaction to seeing the Hulk and practically shitting his pants. And getting a bit too fired up seeing Hulk slam Thor around.
I loved that Hela very flippantly fixed the plot hole of the Infinity Gauntlet being in the halls of Asgard. "Fake. Most of this stuff is fake." There we go. Fixed that little issue from the first Thor movie.
Well done on the marketing. Editing out the lightning as Thor and Hulk are fighting. Editing out Thor's missing eye. I liked that we got a few surprises that way.
Korg's simplicity was great. That guy he was carrying around thinking he was dead at the end, and it was like no big deal. Just sort of "hey, he's dead. Oh no wait, he's alive".
Jeff Goldblum really was perfect for this role of The Grandmaster. Yeah it's a bit of a change from the comics, but that's fine. He made this into his character and it worked great.
As much as I loved Cate Blanchett and her portrayal of Hela, a couple of my biggest complaints centered around her character. I think she had two repeated lines. Her line about "Oh, I missed this" came up twice (I think). She also asks Thor what he was the god of twice. Right before his vision of Odin and again right afterward. That was sort of distracting. I also didn't like that there were a couple scenes where she ran her hands through her hair to bring out her battle head dress, then went back, then back again within a short period of time. Not the biggest deal in the world but it was a little distracting.
Outside of Civil War and the Bucky backstory, this MCU movie might have the most in it that requires that you've seen the past movies. Maybe not plot-wise, but definitely for the jokes. The previously mentioned jokes about Thor trying to soothe Hulk and Loki's reaction to seeing Hulk are clear. There's also the joke about Thor's login to the Quinn Jet being "Point Break".
I know I'm missing a bunch of things, and I'll add those in later, but for now leave us a comment with your favorite or least favorite moments from Thor Ragnarok.
