This week we're checking out "Gray Coyote," an indie comic from Travis Alexander that I found via the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group on Facebook.
In this story, a Native American woman named Nita comes across a group of men in the old west who are accosting a young girl. She saves the girl, and this sets up her on a series of events that ends up pitting her against a ruthless gang.
One of my favorite things about this story is its simplicity. The art is black and white, but beautifully drawn. There is something about a black and white sketch, with shading to evoke the emotions, that I really love.
The story itself is a nice twist on the western. I liked having a solo heroine wandering the old west, instead of your traditional macho guy as the leading hero. Her speed and fighting skills makes her a match for anyone she encounters. Although we don't meet our main villain until the end of the story, you can already tell he is a ruthless killer. I'm excited to see where the rest of this story goes and what their ultimate encounter looks like.
Also, I love seeing a comic that is not a traditional superhero story. It's nice to see another good story show up in this medium.
I recommend you go grab this on Comixology, and let us know what you think of it in the comments!
